Read on to find out about the 7 most common types of nudists you’ll meet at the beach (especially at Haulover Beach), and decide which persona fits you best!
The Nice-To-Meet-You Nudist
Otherwise known as the Friendly Nudist, Mr/Miss Nice-To-Meet-You is pals with everyone at the beach. Often surrounded by a large circle of naked friends playing volleyball or hanging out at the bar, they are the social butterflies of the nudist world. The complete opposite of the Shy Nudist, the Nice-To-Meet-You Nudist is not afraid to dive in and bare all right from the get-go.
If you’re a newbie to the nude beach, the Nice-To-Meet-You Nudist is one of the best people to befriend. A few minutes of conversation later, they’ll be introducing you to all their buddies, and you’ll feel like less of a newcomer.
The Shy Nudist
Maybe it’s their first time shedding their clothes in public or maybe they’re just not as confident in their own bare skin. Whichever one it is, the Shy Nudist takes their time to get naked, usually in a more secluded area of the beach. Also known as the Don’t-Look-At-Me Nudist, the Shy Nudist prefers to get naked in their own space and time. They carry their bathing suit or towel with them wherever they go, ready to whip their clothes back on at the sight of anyone approaching.
While the Shy Nudist seems like a more elusive beachgoer to befriend, taking the time to get to know them is totally worth it. After all, they know all the best hidden coves and secret hideouts.
The Know-It-All Nudist
Every nudist beach has one – the seasoned naturist who seems to know anything and everything about the local nude community. They frequent all the best clothing-optional hangouts, beaches, campsites and naturist clubs in the area. They will tell you everything you need to know about unspoken rules and newbie mistakes. They will load you up with all the information you need to get by and thrive in the local nudist community.
Even if you’re a complete novice, after a conversation with the Know-It-All Nudist, you’ll know all you need to know about life in the buff. And you’ll be ready to pass that knowledge on to other newcomers.
Who knows, maybe over time and without even realizing, your accumulated knowledge will earn you the title of the Know-It-All Nudist.
The Solitary Nudist
The Solitary Nudist prefers to enjoy life in the buff in their own company. Or with the company of a good book. Though they tend to favor the peace and quiet of a secluded cove, the Solitary Nudist can be found anywhere on the beach.
Whether enjoying a meal at the bar, lounging in the sun or taking a dip in the sea, the Solitary Nudist is not to be confused with the Shy Nudist. Their preference to be on their own merely shows how comfortable they feel in their skin. After all, it takes a lot of balls to come to the beach and strip off on your own.
The Nudist Family
There’s mom and dad, the kids, the baby, grandma and grandpa and the family dog, all come for a big naked day out at the beach.
They play games, build sandcastles, lounge in the sun or frolic in the waves together, enjoying the freedom of being among others who share and support their naked lifestyle. Often spending the whole day at the beach, the Nudist Family makes the most of their time together, putting up shade tents and exploring the rock pools and sand dunes.
For some nudists, going to the naturist beach with family members is unheard of, but for the Nudist Family, it’s just another day trip.
The Newbie Nudist
It’s their first time at the beach, and they’re either-jumping-out-of-their-clothes excited or looking out of place and uncomfortable. They don’t yet know all the rules and nude beach etiquette. They may be reluctant to go fully nude right away. And they may unknowingly make some newbie mistakes.
It’s okay though, their enthusiasm and curiosity for the naturist lifestyle makes sure that they’re quickly embraced into the community.
The Tourist
The Tourist wanders onto a clothing-optional beach either by mistake or out of sheer curiosity. They read about a pristine beach where people walk around free and naked, and they wanted to investigate. Or they just took a wrong turning. Often reluctant to lose their clothes, the Tourist instead hangs around the entrance to the beach, in awe but out of place. Their wide-eyed wonder and lack of exposed skin draws the attention of other nudists and usually means the Tourist doesn’t stay around for long.
They come, they see, and then they leave, their minds filled with images of many bare bums and the possibilities of a lifestyle different to their current one.

Good morning Katie,
Been wondering girl where y’all been ? Welcome back Katie.Katie I have never been to a clothing optional beach/resort etc. I;m a long time home nudist. Where I live, I have no next door neighbors on either side, all woods behind me as well. So I’m able to be nude out on my deck with no worries.
Your blog here Katie, I enjoyed reading it. Being a long time home nudist Katie, I would not feel out of place there at Haulover Beach. I’m looking forward to coming down sometime this summer to enjoy your beach. Katie thanks again girl for a great article… (smiling)

A few years ago my wife and I went to Haulover Beach which was on her bucket list and we met a lot of nice people. We were newbies to this and we met a lot of people that were in the nice to know you group. We hope to get back someday in the future it was a very nice time and we enjoyed the whole thing or we went back for days in a row.
The Solitary Nudist.
Although I’m still relative newbie by a long way, I feel I have confidence to go it alone anywhere on a beach allowing a clothes-free area.
That said, I have already enjoyed walks in the buff alone in the open air.
I would say I am a Solitary nudist ,
It’s awesome to have y’all back!!
We are a nudist couple from Austin, Texas, but we are taking a two year vacation from the hot Texas climate to live in the mountains of Costa Rica. We live atop a hill, overlooking a valley. We just bought and installed a 12 wide partition allowing us to be nude outdoors.
Hi Katie,
Always so nice to receive your emails. Thanks for all you do. What type of nudist am I? Possibly a combination of three. First and foremost we are very comfortable in our own skin and love to be naked. Second, we like to be by ourselves reading a book or magazine while sunning nude though we are friendly and approachable, but somewhat shy about the “nice to meet you thing”. Also, not quite a “know-it-all” but we still know some nice naked spots and we are believers in proper nude etiquette when visiting the nude beach. So there you have it. Always a pleasure to hear from you with updates and can’t wait to retire to Florida in 18 to 24 months to be able to go to our favorite beach.
